New Starters (Nursery and Reception)
Starting in Nursery:
Once your child’s Nursery place has been confirmed, you will be given a start date. This is normally the week following your child’s third birthday.
All children are entitled to 15 hours of childcare. These hours can be used flexibly to suit your family’s needs, for example:
- Every morning
- Two and a half days per week
Some families may be eligible for 30 hours funded childcare, which covers full-time school hours. Please note that even if you receive a 30-hour code, you do not have to use all 30 hours and may choose for your child to attend fewer hours if preferred.
You can check your eligibility for a 30-hour code using the link provided. Free Childcare if Working (30 hours). If you do receive a code, please send this to the EYFS Lead as soon as possible so it can be verified through the school office.
Transition Week
To support children in settling happily and confidently into Nursery, we offer a Transition Week Plan. This gradual approach helps children become familiar with the setting, staff, and routines.
- Day 1: Stay and Play for one hour with a parent (time to be confirmed)
- Day 2: Stay and Play for one hour with a parent (time to be confirmed)
- Day 3: Attend independently for one hour
- Day 4: Attend independently for two hours
- Day 5: Attend the morning session (8:35am – 11:40am)
Following the transition week, your child will begin attending their normal hours (for example, every morning or every day).
Please note that the transition process is flexible and tailored to meet the individual needs of each child, ensuring they feel safe, settled, and ready to learn.
Parents are reminded that they must still apply for their child’s Reception place, even if their child currently attends our Nursery; applications should be made via the Nottinghamshire County Council website (please see the website for further information).
Starting in Reception:
All Reception places are confirmed through the Nottinghamshire County Council admissions process. Parents will receive confirmation of their child’s place via the Nottinghamshire County Council website.
To support children in making a smooth and confident transition into full-time school, a range of transition events will take place during the Summer Term prior to the September your child starts school. These events include:
- A ‘Welcome to EYFS’ meeting for parents
- A transition day where your child will visit school and spend time in their new classroom
- An opportunity for parents to meet their child’s new teacher
In September, Reception-aged children will start school on the first day of the academic year and will attend full-time from this date.
