“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta

We have explored the texts, Lost and found, and The Runaway Iceberg. These texts have enabled us to look at the South Pole, the animals that live there, and their habitats. We have explored the snowy landscape on our funky fingers tray, with penguins and polar animals on the glittery cloud dough. Our water tray transformed into an ocean with icebergs! Look out! This text also helped us to explore feelings of loneliness and how we can help others if they appear to be feeling lonely or sad.

We also learned about some famous explorers that travelled to the South Pole for the very first time. The children explored how they might travel now and compared it to how the explorers travelled then. We found that the explorers had to carry lots of their things by themselves or have a sled with dogs pulling across the snow. They were challenged to see how good they would be in an expedition... they had to carry as many things as possible!

We then moved on to look at China, we learned all about Chinese culture, clothes, and food. We explored the story of creation, did you know that the Chinese story of creation depicts a dragon forming the Earth? How cool! We read the story of The Great Race, where the animals formed the order of the zodiac by racing a great race. We then made some traditional red envelopes and presented them to our friends as a New Year gift.

To round off our visit to China we held a Chinese New Year Party, where we all dressed in red and had a food tasting experience! Yum yum!

We have more pictures of this event in our Gallery: Click here to go to our Chinese New Year Gallery

The last stop on our trip around the world was London. During this week we wrote our own storybook! We learned all about London, the hustle and bustle of the city, the landmarks, and of course the Queen. We even had a chance to see the "Crown Jewels" when Her Royal Highness sent them to Miss Kennerley to look after! We dressed up as Yeoman Guards and had so much fun making our own royal crowns.
