The Book of Hopes

Completely free for all children and families, the extraordinary collection of short stories, poems, essays and pictures has contributions from more than 110 children’s writers and illustrators, including Lauren Child, Anthony Horowitz, Greg James and Chris Smith, Michael Morpurgo, Liz Pichon, Axel Scheffler, Francesca Simon and Jacqueline Wilson.

The collection, published by Bloomsbury, is dedicated to the doctors, nurses, carers, porters, cleaners and everyone currently working in hospitals.

Virtual day at Chester Zoo

A little birdie told us you quite enjoyed your last virtual trip to the zoo…

So, as you're not able to come and see us in person right now, we’re once again bringing the zoo to you!

Join us LIVE on our Facebook or YouTube pages from 10am when we'll be throwing open our 'virtual gates.'

Enjoy a whole day of animal antics, live from your sofa!

Musical Theatre in your front room!

A new YouTube channel, titled The Show Must Go On, is launching to give those stuck at home because of the Covid-19 pandemic their very own West End and Broadway experience. The channel will air a different musical each week, starting with Andrew’s hit show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat that will premiere on Friday (3 April) at 7pm.

Harry Potter at Home Hub

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has launched an online Potter hub to keep children educated and entertained during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Harry Potter at Home" brings together a number of resources including free access to the audiobook version of the first installment in the series.

"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" has been added to Audible's library of free books, making it immediately available in several different languages for free, and without requiring a subscription to the Amazon-owned audiobook service.

Other features of the hub include articles, puzzles and video.

JK Rowling has said, "While we're on lockdown we might need a bit of magic!"

As you can't come to the zoo right now, we’ll bring the zoo to you!

Join us LIVE from 10am when we'll be throwing open our 'virtual gates.'

So, break up the boredom of being at home and, for the first time ever, enjoy a whole day of animal antics, live from your sofa!

Wish Jar

A great idea for something to keep you positive during this time of uncertainty!

Every time you wish you could do something, go somewhere, treat yourselves, see someone you love, visit a new place, invite people to visit you, write it down on a post it note and pop it in a jar. When this is all over, this will be your bucket list. You can work your way through the jar and will be more grateful than ever for the little and lovely things in your lives. Until then enjoy watching your jar fill up with magical things to look forward to.

Cartoon Workshop

Sheffield artist Pete McKee will guide you through the basics of character development starting with how to draw simple faces and expressions. So grab a pen, pencil or whatever you can find and join in the fun.

Elevenses with David Walliams

Every day at 11am, you can listen one of David Walliams' World's Worst Children stories, so sit down, take a break, and enjoy 20ish minutes of pure fun!

Wednesday 25th March

Wellbeing Wednesday

The Art of Brilliance are putting wellbeing lessons on their youtube channel (click here) every Wednesday at 10am. They want to keep spirits up by coming up with ways to spread some positivity and help keep minds busy with ‘good stuff’. They describe it as 'like Netflix, but for wellbeing'.

Wild World with Steve Backshall

On Wednesday 25th March at 9.30 am, Steve Backshall is giving a live lesson on his facebook and youtube page all about the wild world. From habitats to holotypes, parasites to pademelons, he will be doing his best to bring the wild world into your living room, from... his living room!

WW2 History Lesson from a Bunker

On Wednesday 25th March at 1pm, Western Approaches HQ are giving live lessons on their facebook page (and on their youtube page) from a secret bunker. Topics will include; What were rations, coding and morse code, evacuees and evacuation and WW2 history.
